In contrast to quartz glass, silica glass is usually a "washed" (leached) glass. In this chemical process, molecules are released from the filament surface so that the percentage share of silicon dioxide (SiO2)and, consequently, the temperature resistance of the glass are increased. Silica glasses are used for applications that require a high temperature resistance, but where the mechanical burden is lower.
